Addie Rice

January 26, 1936 — January 31, 2025

Addie Jennett "Jenny" Rice passed away peacefully on January 31st in Raleigh, North Carolina, surrounded by family.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Philip and his wife Cindy, Jenny, and Jillian and her husband Robert; her grandchildren, Brooke and her husband Brian, Joshua and his wife Ashley, Kara, Nick, Michelle, and Marissa; her great-grandchildren, Elijah, Madelyn Ruth, Levi, Lincoln, and Ryder; and her sister Betty. She was preceded in death by her husband Lattie; her sisters, Bobbie Ann and Dorothy; and her parents, Dennis and Addie Babson.

Jenny was a child of God and praised Him in all things. Her work in ministry took many courses: teaching Sunday School at New Hope Baptist Church, teaching English as a second language to newcomers to her church community, and leading a Bible study at the North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women. Jenny believed in the power of forgiveness and salvation and made it a point to show God's love by giving those that needed it a second chance. She raised her children to know God and made sure that they did the same with their own families. She shared the fruit of her spiritual gifts with others and never shied away from an opportunity to help herd others toward Christ.

Jenny attended beauty school and worked as a beautician, running a shop from her home where she welcomed members of the community. From styling the wigs of cancer patients to making sure her loved ones were laid to rest with immaculate hair and makeup, it was her desire to make her clients feel beautiful through every season of life. Her eye for beauty extended far beyond cosmetics. To step into her back yard was to be transported into a garden sanctuary full of hand-laid brick and marble walkways, bubbling fountains, koi ponds, and angelic statues. The home that she kept and loved to entertain in was equally ornate. A twinkle in her eye and a power tool in hand were sure signs of an ambitious (and often impromptu) renovation project.

Well into her seventies, you would often find her traveling across the country in her RV with Lattie, daring mountain roads and exciting terrain that weren't for the weak of spirit. She loved the outdoors, casting her fishing line in new locales, learning about other cultures, and meeting new friends at campsites. After every adventure, she'd come home and regale family with wild stories of her trips.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
