David Ray Barnett

GARNER–David Barnett, 50, died in Durham on November 25, 2014 from a sudden heart attack. David is survived by his parents, Eugene and Lorraine Barnett of Glen Allen, VA; his children, Daniel and Stephanie Barnett of Garner, NC; and his brother Kevin Barnett of Maidens, VA. David was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. Upon graduating from Hermitage High School, he attended East Carolina University before joining the U.S. Navy. He served 6 years working as a sonar technician on submarines. After his enlistment, David worked in quality management for manufacturing and distribution for the next 18 years. During this time, he participated in civil war re-enactments and became an assistant scout master for BSA troop 391. In 2008, David found a new passion in managing self-storage facilities and training others to do so. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd. Garner, NC. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made to either the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758541 Topeka KS 66675-8541 or for the local BSA Council, 3231 Atlantic Ave. Raleigh NC 27604.
