BENSON - George William Adams, 74, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by his family.
He was born in Johnston County on April 8, 1950, the son of the late George Sidney Adams and Lossie Guin Adams. George honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, having obtained the rank of Specialist 4 (E-4) prior to being honorably discharged in 1973.
George attended Cape Fear Technical Institute, receiving his associate's degree in computer science. He went on to work for IBM, eventually becoming a manager for the company. Following his retirement from IBM, George set out on the open road as a commercial truck driver. He was an avid boater and loved to be out on the water enjoying the great outdoors. Of all his pastimes, George's favorite was his family.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Rhonda Fuller of Leland; son, Jackie "Edward" Byrd of Leland; grandchildren, Ashley Squires of Four Oaks, Brandon Byrd of Forest City; great grandchildren, Elianna Grace Colman, Sebastian William Colman, Brooklyn Elise Harvey, Jasper Robert Harvey, Roman Alexander Harvey; sister, Kathy Pendergraph and husband, David of Selma; his girlfriend, June Stuart May of Benson; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Jacky Mae West Adams; and his brothers, Roy Wilson Adams, Joseph Victor Adams, and Louis Guin.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home (831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27604). Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Montlawn Memorial Park (2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603) with military honors.
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to the funeral home.
