April 2, 1929 - December 10, 2011 Raleigh - Henry Griffin McFayden, 82, of 501 E. Whitaker Mill Rd., Raleigh, NC, died Saturday, December 10, 2011. Henry was born on April 2, 1929 in Richmond County, to the late John C. and Mildred C. McFayden. His initial employment with the NC Cotton Growers Cooperative Association was interrupted by military service during the Korean War. Subsequently, he was employed by the State Employees Credit Union, the Law Enforcement Officers Benefit and Retirement Fund, and the Teachers and State Employee Retirement System. He retired from the Retirement System in 1984, providing him with more time to spend with his family and for travel. Henry and Madelon, his loving wife, were married in 1951 in the First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC. He remained an active member of this church until his death, serving as an officer in his church as well as in his Presbytery. He was also a member of the Koinonia Sunday School Class for over 50 years. Henry was predeceased by his wife of almost 60 years, Madelon. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie McFayden Pollock and husband Harold of Burgaw, NC, son, Dr. John Griffin McFayden and wife Laurel of Philadelphia, PA, and son, Dr. Kenneth Joyner McFayden and wife Narola of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Rhett Kennedy Pollock (Valerie), John Christopher McFayden, Griffin Pollock Sutton (Scott), Andrew Hinton McFayden, and Stefan Michael McFayden. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at The First Presbyterian Church, 120 W. Hargett St., Raleigh, NC 27601. The family will receive friends immediately following the service, ath the church. Memorial gifts may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, 120 W. Hargett St., Raleigh, NC 27601.
