Suzanne Catherine Scott was born in Charleston, West Virginia to Catherine Jane Scott and John Hadley Scott. Eventually the family relocated to New Jersey, where Sue attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey. Early on in her life both Sue and her sister Betsy started taking dance lessons ,and in the late 1940’s both of them performed on Broadway. Sue Scott as she was known performed in the musicals High Button Shoes, Call Me Madame and Fancy Free the last of which was choreographed by Jerome Robbins. After working on Broadway, Sue Scott travelled to Europe, starting her overseas adventure on the Queen Mary. In the span of three weeks she coincidentally met one Nelson Hubbard on three occasions in Rome, Zurich and last in Paris, where they agreed to have dinner together. Later that same year, Nelson (who was working with the Arabian American Oil Company in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia) came to visit Sue in New Jersey. That weekend Nelson asked for Sue’s hand in marriage and Sue accepted his offer to be his wife. Several months later she flew to Geneva, Switzerland where they were married by the Consulate General of the American Embassy in Geneva on March 24, 1952. After honeymooning in Europe, they flew on to Arabia where they settled and started a family. Nelson’s career with Aramco spanned 30 years and during that time, Sue and Nelson raised four children, traveled the world and learned to sail. Upon their retirement to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1980 they spent time with their children and sailed to the Caribbean with friends that they had worked with in Arabia. Sue was known for her sense of adventure, and welcoming personality which allowed her to make many friends. In the 1980’s the couple moved to Sun City, Hilton Head ,SC to enjoy the waterfront and proximity to family and friends. In 2011, Sue moved as a widow to North Carolina to be closer to her daughter Nancy Hubbard Carty, who resided in Angier, NC. For the past five years Sue lived at Bright Horizon’s Senior Care in North Raleigh, NC. Sue is survived by her four children Nancy Hubbard Carty of Raleigh, NC, James Allen Hubbard of Austin, Texas, John Scott Hubbard of St. Petersburg, Florida and Linda Dondero and her husband Bill Dondero of Malvern, Pennsylvania. Her Grandchildren include Brenna Marie Dondero and Nolan Dondero and Billy Dondero of Malvern, PA. Her Sister Betsy Scott Mercer age 95 resides in Sun City, Phoenix, AZ, Betsy’s children (nieces to Sue Scott ) are Dru Daisy Giorgiadis and her husband Martin Georgiadis, with four children Gavin, Luke, Griffin and Alec Georgiadis. Hadley Mercer Norris (daughter of Betsy Scott) and her husband Christopher Noren have raised two sons, Wesley and Walker Noren. The funeral arrangements for Suzanne Scott Hubbard are being carried out with the Bryan Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh, NC . No service is planned at this time.
