ANGIER– Aaron Alphonza Champion, 88, passed away on Tuesday at Transitions LifeCare. A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late, Alton and Mamie Smith Champion. Aaron served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Korean War. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 7th at 11:00 AM at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier. Aaron is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie Jeanne Champion; daughter, Donna Lynn Champion of Angier; sons, Aaron A. Champion, Jr. and wife, Carol of Pittsburgh, PA, Timothy D. Champion of Angier; sister, Mary Morris of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, Andrew “James” Smith of Liberty, Donald Ray Champion and wife, Helen of Youngsville; grandsons, Nathan Champion and wife, Kristy, Jesse Champion and wife, Shannon, Cody Champion; great-granddaughters, Karsyn and Reegan Champion. In addition to his parents, Aaron is preceded in death by his sister, Lillie Mae Hawley and a brother, Alton N. “O.A.” Champion, Jr… The family would like to thank the staff of Transitions LifeCare for the extraordinary care they gave Aaron during his illness.
