ANGIER– Aaron Alphonza Champion, 88, passed away on Tuesday at Transitions LifeCare. A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late, Alton and Mamie Smith Champion. Aaron served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Korean War. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 7th at 11:00 AM at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier. Aaron is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie Jeanne Champion; daughter, Donna Lynn Champion of Angier; sons, Aaron A. Champion, Jr. and wife, Carol of Pittsburgh, PA, Timothy D. Champion of Angier; sister, Mary Morris of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, Andrew “James” Smith of Liberty, Donald Ray Champion and wife, Helen of Youngsville; grandsons, Nathan Champion and wife, Kristy, Jesse Champion and wife, Shannon, Cody Champion; great-granddaughters, Karsyn and Reegan Champion. In addition to his parents, Aaron is preceded in death by his sister, Lillie Mae Hawley and a brother, Alton N. “O.A.” Champion, Jr… The family would like to thank the staff of Transitions LifeCare for the extraordinary care they gave Aaron during his illness. Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC 27607 in Aaron’s memory.
