Addie Mylinda Young Dorman

Garner - On March 20, 2012, Addie Mylinda Young Dorman was welcomed into the loving arms of God and the Church Triumphant following a brief illness at WakeMed in Raleigh. As she began her eternal life and heard the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” she was surrounded by those she loved most. Mylinda was known for her positive outlook on life, her giving spirit, her intense love for family and friends, and her deep faith in her Lord and Savior who guided and sustained her earthly life. Mylinda never met a stranger and was always on the lookout for ways that she could help others. She created many smiles as she would show up with a home-cooked meal or cookies for those who were sick. Mylinda also gave her life to service by making blankets for the Linus Project, by altering clothes for wounded and disabled soldiers through Sew-Much-Comfort, by volunteering at local soup kitchens, and on Appalachian Service Project mission trips. Mylinda and her husband, Don, loved to travel especially to Disney World, Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, and Minnesota to visit family, as well as to the mountains and beach. She was a master cook, and she and her husband often entertained family, friends, or the whole neighborhood. Mylinda was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Raleigh where she has served as a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, Bible School director, choir member, and nursery coordinator. Mylinda had an intense love for all of her friends at St. Andrews as well as all of her family. Her nieces and nephews couldn’t wait for Cousins Day where Aunt Mylinda orchestrated a day of sewing, cooking, games, adventures, and laughter. Her two-year-old granddaughter, Mackenzie, loved her Gee so very much, and Mylinda was all-smiles as she had picnics, tea parties, pj parties, and singing fests with her. She was eagerly anticipating the birth of her grandson and left this life knowing his name, which she held in her hand. Mylinda was born in Newton, North Carolina and graduated as Valedictorian from Bandys High School. During her high school years, she was the organist at her home church, St. James Lutheran and was an active member of 4-H. Following high school, Mylinda attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received a BS degree in home economics and a minor in math. Mylindas major focus during her childrens growing up years was to be a loving and nurturing stay-at-home mother and wife. As her children got older, Mylinda headed into the workforce and was the Director of Ernest Myatt Child Development Center, and later a substitute teacher in Wake County Schools. She retired from being a home economics teacher at East Garner Middle School and North Garner Junior High School. Mylinda had a passion for teaching and kept things hopping in her classroom. She influenced and touched the lives of many, many children. Mylinda is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Becky Young, her mother-in-law, Ethel Arledge, her paternal grandparents, Carmie and Mary Mylinda Young (Mama Young), her maternal grandparents, Emmett and Eslie Sigmon, her sister, Joyce Young Deese, her brother-in-law, Kelly Patrick Humphries, her nephew, Carmie Glenn Hullette, and her aunt, Doris Young Yount. Mylinda is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Donald Dorman of Garner, her beloved children and grandchildren, Ronald, Katie and Baby Dorman of Garner (who is scheduled to arrive any day); as well as Emily and Dr. Alex Brennan, and their daughter MacKenzie of Cary. In addition, Mylinda is survived by her brother, George Young and his wife, Mary Beth, and children, Amanda and Ben of Newton; her sister, Gina Young Humphries, and daughters, Ashleigh and Lydia, of Newton; her brother-in-law Ray Deese and children, Rev. Tommy Hullette, and wife Eve, and their children, Ruthie, Tobias, Oakley, and Connor of Newton, and Angel Hullette Willis and husband, Rev. Doug Willis, and their children, Ethan and Gracie of Spruce Pine; and sister-in-law, Brenda Slater and her husband Dick and their children, Scott Slater and his wife Brenda, and their son Jack, of Alexandria, Virginia, as well as Jill Slater and her sons Joey and Joel of San Diego, California; and a cousin/sister Eugenia Yount Stockman and her husband Wade, and children, Addie, Joshua, Joey, and Darsie of Minnesota. Other special family members include Willard and Eloise Brinker of Ohio and cousins, Linda and Eslie. Mylindas family will receive friends on Friday evening, March 23 from 6:00-8:00PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. A celebration of Mylindas life will be held Saturday at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Raleigh at 2PM with the burial and service of committal being held at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be shared with: St. Andrews UMC, 1201 Maxwell Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603. Mylindas family is so very grateful for all of the prayers, love, and encouragement shown to them over the past few days by family, friends, and medical staff. Mylinda was truly a person who was blessed to be a blessing to others. Just hours and minutes before she had the fatal stroke following minor surgery, she called all of her family and many of her friends to let them know that she was feeling great and how she loved them so much.
