Alex Walton Dupree, Jr.

Garner- Alex Walton Dupree, Jr. of Garner, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the age of 83. Alex died peacefully at home, encircled by his loving family.

Alex was born in WIllow Springs, North Carolina, on November 8, 1939 to the late Alex Walton Dupree, Sr. and Mallie Pleasant Dupree. Alex had two brothers and one sister. As a young man, Alex served in the National Guard for seven years.

Alex also worked faithfully for the State of North Carolina for 30 years, retiring in 1998 from the Department of Agriculture, Nematology Division. Alex was an avid bowler and in 1993, he was inducted into the Raleigh Bowling Hall of Fame. Alex also enjoyed golfing with his buddies at Raleigh Golf Association. Alex will be remembered as a devoted, giving, loving, and proud husband, father, brother, and grandfather. His gentleness, kindness, and smile will be forever missed.

He leaves to grieve his loss and cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Ruth Daughtry Dupree; daughters, Tammy Dupree Penny and husband, Jeff of Apex, and Melanie Dupree Policke and husband, Tim of Forest, Virginia; four grandchildren, Stephen Michael Policke, Rachel Ann Policke, Nicholas Payton Penny, and Mackenzie Dupree Penny; sister, Judy Nappier and husband, Jim of Clayton; brothers, Larry Dupree and wife, Elmerine of Zebulon, and Danny Dupree and wife, Valerie of Clayton.

In lieu of phone calls, Alex's wife, Ruth would appreciate your prayers and cards as her medical condition limits her verbal communication. As an alternative to flowers, memorials may be made to Duke Hospice and American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA).
