Alfred Leon Bumpus, Jr.

In loving memory of Alfred (Al) Bumpus of Raleigh, NC, who went to heaven on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Born on September 1, 1955, in Daviess County, KY, he lived a life dedicated to his family and his faith.

Al was the beloved husband of Debbie Fogleman-Bumpus; faithful father to Stefanie Bumpus McBride (Grant) of Stockbridge, GA, and Preston Bumpus of Evansville, IN, and stepfather to Allen Fogleman (April) of Raleigh, NC; dearest Grandpa to his precious loves -- his granddaughters, Ella, Katelyn, and Autumn Fogleman; and brother to Jeffrey Bumpus of Henderson, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Leon Bumpus, Sr., and Peggy Unverzagt Bumpus of Henderson, KY.

Al, who graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 1979, was an accountant by profession and retired in 2023. He maintained a lifelong passion for estate and yard sales and was an avid collector of antiques and sports memorabilia. He saw the value and beauty in all things. There was no one who enjoyed celebrating the Christmas season more than Al, and his family will cherish those holiday memories. He loved watching all sports, and loved playing games with his granddaughters even more.

Al was a member of Apex Baptist Church, and more recently attended Mid-Way Baptist Church after moving to Raleigh.

Al and his family are ever thankful for the exceptional doctors, nurses, and caregivers who assisted him with his medical needs.

The celebration of Al’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Apex Baptist Church Senior Department.
