Alice Elizabeth Murphy

Raleigh – Alice Holder Murphy, 86, passed, on February 21, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Nash County, Alice was born July 8, 1936, to the late Riley Melvin and Florence Alice Davis Holder. In addition to her parent, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse “Snooks” E. Murphy.

Alice is survived by her children, Roy V. Murphy and wife, Becky, of Raleigh, Ruby Stone and husband, Dwight, of Lynchburg, VA, Jerry Murphy of Raleigh, Joy Murphy Young and husband, Mark of Dunn. Her 10 grandchildren, Chris and Barbara Stanley and their sons, Cameron and Connor, Stephanie and Mike Fry and their children, Tyler and Katelyn, Alicen and Thomas Hogge and their daughter Hailee, Roy II (BR) and Brittany Murphy, Aimee and Paul Gatting and their son, Nate, Amanda and Jonathan Everett and their son, Jack, Jason and Mendip Murphy and their children, Aryia, Maya and Neal, Josh and Brandi Young and their sons, Talon and Tatum, Jordan and Casey Young and their sons, Lane and Rhett, Garrett Wood and fiancé Makayla Hackney. She is also survived by her brother, Arthur and Frankie Holder of Clayton, and Dan Holder of Reynolds, GA.

Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, 5444 Brogden Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.

Alice enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, sewing, quilting and always had a tender heart not only for people but for animals, also. She delighted in spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed the serenity of being outside, listening to and watching birds, working in her garden, sharing the “fruits” of her labor and growing flowers with her very successful green thumb. You could often find her loving on her chickens and caring for them. In years past her animals included, but were not limited to: Weimaraner’s, cows, calves, pigs, horses, ducks, peacocks, guineas, geese, emus and the list goes on and on. No one was a stranger to her for long, because as Snooks would say she had the gift of gab and she was good at it!

The family would like to say an extra heart felt “thank you” for the love and support from Angela Lands, Nancy Murphy, Robi Brown and Gary Wood. As well as the loving care provided by Crystal and Lyrica McCullen, Vivian Wrench and Transitions Life caregivers, Cody, Elaine and Jenera.

To say that Alice will be greatly missed by her friends and family is an understatement. We know she is enjoying the riches of Heaven now as her work here on earth is done. May we continue to always celebrate the joy she gave us as her legacy lives on.
