Alonzo Daniel Stephenson

February 22, 1932 — November 16, 2022

Garner- Alonzo Daniel “A.D.” Stephenson, 90, passed away Wednesday at Wake Med Cary. Born in Harnett County, he was the son of the late Ingham S. and Lula Pleasant Stephenson.


A.D. was a loving husband to wife, Janet Matthews Stephenson and doting father to son, Chris. Both pre-deceased him and were the light of his life.


He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He was stationed in Greenland, which he called “the North Pole”. His career included time with NC Baptist State Convention, Electric Storage Battery (making missile and torpedo batteries), retiring and ending with 25 years as a correctional officer at NC Women’s Prison in Raleigh.


A.D. is survived by sisters-in-law, Jenny G. Stephenson (Wade) and Euba Young Stephenson (David), and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to his wife and son, A.D. was pre-deceased by brothers, John B. Stephenson (Agatha), Lindsy Stephenson (May), Julian Stephenson (Rebecca), Wade Stephenson, and David Stephenson. Sisters who pre-deceased him were Pauline Guy (Norwood), Leola Stephenson, and Sue Nooney (Ray).


A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 18th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Garner. A Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM before the service. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
