Andrew Mckinley Chavis

GARNER- Andrew McKinley Chavis, 67, passed away on March 28, 2019. A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late Willis and Flora Bolling Chavis. He was educated in the Wake County Public Schools. At a very young age, he joined Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ and later joined Wake Baptist Grove Church where he was a Trustee and remained an active member until his death. Andrew was employed with the State of North Carolina, both at NC State University and at East Garner Elementary School, where he retired as head custodian. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, at Wake Baptist Grove Church in Garner with the Rev. James Clanton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be from 1:30 – 2:00 pm at the church, prior to the service. He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Lyons and Alice Chavis; step-sons, Martin and LaVon Dunn; sister-in-law, Reba Chavis; special nieces, Peggy Hanton, Ernestine Lyons and Doris Simmons, as well as other cherished family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Smith Chavis; sisters, Estelle Chavis, Betty Chavis Mayo and Viola Holland; brother, Nathaniel Chavis and niece, Linda Simmons Smith. Andrew was well known in the Garner community and loved by many. He will be greatly missed.
