Ann Williams Davis, 77, of Angier, NC went to be with the LORD on July 23, 2024. She was born on October 20, 1946, in Wake County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Buck and Naomi Williams.
Ann was a graduate of Angier High School class of 1965. When she was 16 years old, she met a 20 year old young man named Walter at her cousin’s birthday party. The first time they met, he told “Tall Ann” he would one day marry her. On August 31, 1966, she did, in fact, marry this man. They got married on Walter’s birthday so he wouldn’t forget their wedding date! This August they would have been celebrating 58 years of marriage.
Ann and Walter early on in their marriage lived in Wake County, but eventually chose to settle in Garner, NC and started a family. On June 15th of 1971, they welcomed their first child, Wendy. On December 10th of 1975, they welcomed their second daughter Tracey.
Ann worked various clerical jobs throughout her working years, but her longest tenured job was as an Administrative Assistant with Wyatt-Quarles Seed Company in Garner. She worked there for 30 years and finally retired in 2014. She was known for her excellent organizational skills and incredibly fast typing (130 words per min).
In 1999, Ann was blessed with her first grandchild, a boy, Shane. She loved her role as a grandmother, “Mimi”, and chasing a curly haired boy around the house. She faithfully attended all of Shane’s baseball games starting when he was the age of 4. In 2023, she welcomed Shane’s wife, Brittney, into the family and treated her like another grandchild. Ann was promoted to Great-Grandmother in 2024 when Grayson was born on Jan 3rd.
After 30 years of welcoming 10 great-nephews, a girl was finally born into the family in 2008, her granddaughter, Caitlyn. Ann quickly embraced playing with baby dolls, baking cookies, and watching dance recitals.
Without a doubt, Ann loved her family unconditionally. Her favorite place was at home which was always neat and tidy and rarely was a dish in the sink. Anyone who spent time in her home was made to feel like family. She was well known for her cooking–everyone loved her chicken salad, fried chicken, homemade soup, homemade sweet pickles, and lemon pound cake. She could often be found enjoying jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She also loved a good rocking chair and had two fur babies, Zoie and Princess who would fight for her lap.
Ann grew up in church, but it was when attending Fellowship Baptist in Willow Spring, she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized in 1987. In true Baptist fashion, she always liked to sit on the back row. At church and everywhere she went, she was known for her gentle demeanor, sweet smile and her genuine kindness.
Although cancer treatments for Angiosarcoma ravaged Ann’s physical body over the past 2 years, she is now pain-free in her eternal, spiritual body. Walter, as he vowed back in 1966, remained faithfully by Ann’s side through her sickness, and held on to her until she took her last breath. After 77 years of a wonderful, love-filled life on this Earth, surrounded by her loved ones, at 8:48pm on 7/23/24 she was welcomed into the gates of heaven. Praise be to God for the legacy she left behind. To know her was to know love and kindness.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and Herman Williams, and her dogs, Zoie and Princess. Ann is survived by her husband of 58 years, Walter Davis; daughters Wendy Jones (Blair) and Tracey Richards (David); grandchildren, Shane Barden (Brittney) and Caitlyn Jones; great grandson, Grayson Barden; sister Dot Wood, as well as several nieces and nephews.
