Anne Hiscoe Adams

d. March 27, 2012

After a prolonged period of declining health, Anne Hiscoe Adams, 53, died peacefully in her home in Cary on March 27, 2012. Dealt a lifetime of troubling circumstances, Anne presented herself to the world with a profound generosity and a simple and almost always unfailing trust. The souls of all who encountered her in that life can be measured by the degree with which they returned that trust and generosity. A profound simplicity also marked the pride with which she long served the Department of Communications at North Carolina State University and the grief she carried for her beloved mother, Laurel Johnson Hiscoe; her father, Gordon Hiscoe, and her stepmother, Elizabeth Smith Hiscoe. Anne, in turn, will be grieved by her brother, David Hiscoe; her sister Patricia Hiscoe Battle and her nephews Jeremy Ball of Cary, NC; Matthew Battle of Los Angeles, California; Mark Battle, currently serving with the United States Air Force in Italy; and Nathaniel Hiscoe of Raleigh, NC. Her family wishes to thank and honor the staff of Chatham Commons, who with care and good humor do a difficult job that rarely receives the appreciation it deserves. Linda Johnson and Murney Rinholm provided Anne with years of friendship and love that went far beyond the professional roles they so graciously assumed for her. They both honor their profession and their faith. Kathy Huffstetler of Aging Family Services made Annes life more secure and easy during her last years. Kathy Kuntz Davison was a true friend who provided guidance, love, and respect to Anne for over four decades. Sharon Stanford Dinley, as always, was there when the family most needed cheer or help. Most of all, Annes older cousins Laura Carr Southerland and Sarah Carr have our deep gratitude for their role in helping to raise Anne after the early death of her mother and for providing her with a grand example of lives lived well and faithfully. The family will receive visitors at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home at 831 Wake Forest Road from 2p.m to 4p.m on Saturday, March 31. Anne will be interred with her mother in the Four Oaks Cemetery at a later date. In honor of Annes courageous and lifelong struggle with the debilitating disease, please consider a donation to the Epilepsy Foundation in lieu of flowers.
