Annette Hill

GARNER- Rita Annette Carroll Hill passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 19th. She valiantly battled cancer for 20 years. Annette was born in Sampson County, daughter of the late Orita Edwards and Marion G. Carroll. She graduated Midway High School in 1965, married her high school sweetheart, John Gilbert, and together they moved to Raleigh. Annette worked as a secretary while raising her family and living in Garner. She later married Tom Hill and lived in Oriental for many years. She served as the administrative assistant to the Senior Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in New Bern. Annette treasured her years at Temple Baptist and the many friends she came to know while there. Annette’s physical beauty was only surpassed by the beauty of her spirit. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Annette was predeceased by her husband, Tom Hill. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Pruitt (Dickie), sons John Gilbert, Jr., Britt Gilbert (Debbie), grandsons Tyler, Taylor and Tanner Gilbert; granddaughters, Danielle Pruitt and Brittney Gilbert; and great-grand-daughters, Braelynn and Hayden. Sisters, Lorrie Icenhour (Parks), Donna Pollard (Ricky), Donita White (Thomas). The family will receive friends at 10:00am on Saturday, September 21st, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, with the Reverend Joe Davis of New Bern officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00pm at Blackman’s Grove PFWB Church cemetery, 1362 Timothy Rd., Dunn, North Carolina 28334.
