Annie Laurie Stephenson

Angier, NC -  Annie Laurie Barnes Stephenson, 93, died at Oak Hill Assisted Living Community on Sunday, October 6, 2024. She was born on April 28, 1931, in Angier, NC. She was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Barnes and Mabel Parrish Barnes. Laurie graduated from Coats High School in 1948, and she lived her entire life in Harnett and Johnston Counties.


Laurie is survived by her sons, Randy T. Stephenson, Timothy P. Stephenson, and Jeffrey B. Stephenson; daughter, Sue Ann Stephenson Wood (John W. Wood, III); grandchildren, John R. Stephenson (Sharon), Ruth T. Stephenson, Jeffrey B. Stephenson, Jr., (Cara), Nathan J. Stephenson (Adam Brault), John W. Wood, IV (Michael Gerali), Katherine Wood White (Connor), and Andrew T. Stephenson (Taylor Williams); great-granddaughter, Ann Taylor Stephenson.


Laurie’s life revolved around her beloved husband and best friend, Johnny R. Stephenson, her children, her friends, and her community. She was a loving mother, very supportive of her children. She was always up for a new adventure, bringing delight to all who knew and loved her.


Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Wilma B. Caldwell, brother, T.J. Barnes; daughters-in-law, Bonnie M. Stephenson and Ann J. Stephenson.


A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, October 10th, at Benson Baptist Church in Benson, North Carolina, followed by a celebration of Laurie’s life at the home of Sue Ann and John Wood at 2020 Godwin Lake Road, Benson.

Laurie’s family deeply appreciates the great care and friendships Laurie enjoyed during the past five years at Oak Hill, where the staff and residents came to be family, too. They made her last years meaningful and fulfilling.
