Anthony Michael Andruzzi, Sr.

Raleigh- Anthony Michael Andruzzi, Sr. “Tony”, age 86, passed away peacefully on July 19th at home under the care of Transitional Hospice and family. Born January 13, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, Tony was the son of the late Joseph and Henrietta Andruzzi. Tony is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen Daley Andruzzi, an infant son, Joseph James Andruzzi and 5 brothers, Louie, Ralph, Michael, Joseph and Nicholas Andruzzi. Tony is survived by eight children: Anthony M. Andruzzi, Jr., Barbara Desmarias, Nicholas Andruzzi, Joseph Andruzzi, Ida Stephens, Michael Andruzzi, Mary Andruzzi, William Andruzzi and their families. He is also survived by a brother William Andruzzi and a sister Lucy Foley. Tony was blessed and very proud of his 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by many devoted friends. Tony served in the US Air Force, active and reserves for 46 years. He was a Communication Specialist on a B29 in the Korean War. Prior to the Korean War  he was involved in many missions during the Berlin Airlift. Tony was employed by IBM for 30 years as an Engineer. Tony was a devout Catholic and was a servant leader in the church and community. Tony will be remembered for his love of life and family, knowledge, compassion, his wandering spirit and the fact that he never met a stranger. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday, July 26, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 PM, Monday, July 25, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road.  There will be a Vigil Service at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Transitional Hospice Care at 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or the Joe Andruzzi Foundation at joeandruzzifoundation.org.
