GARNER - Argel Harold Payne finished his earthly journey and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 1, 2011. He was born March 13, 1926 to the late Grant and Ocie Armentrout Payne in Webster Springs, WV. He was a WWII veteran who served in the US Navy in the Pacific, earning five Battle Stars. After the war concluded, Argel answered Gods call to the ministry. He served the United Methodist Church in West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. He was a devoted follower of his beloved Duke Blue Devils. Argel was loved by all for his devotion, love, and generosity to others, including those he didnt know. He will always be remembered as the best husband, dad, brother, Papa, and Poppy to his family. We will always love and remember you, Daddy. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 11:00am, at Garner United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC. He is survived by devoted soul mate and wife, Leta; daughter, Linda Hall and husband Danny, of Evington, VA; son, Harold Duke and wife Anne, of Cary; daughter, Stefanie Journigan and husband Mike, of Raleigh; son, Gary and wife Becky, of Summersville, WV; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; sister, Letha Dietch, of Rockingham, NC; sister-in-law, Dorothy Payne, of Morgantown, WV; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Foreman Tommy Payne, of Morgantown, WV. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Garner UMC building fund, Juvenile Diabetes Association, or Hospice of Wake County.
