Arthur McKay Fussell, 75, of Clayton, North Carolina died September 17, 2019. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 1:45 on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Garner, North Carolina. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM with burial to follow at the church cemetery. McKay was born on December 11, 1943 to the late Arthur McKay Fussell and Lydia Adelaide Wommack in Tarboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Weldon High School where he played basketball and football, and was offered scholarships to play football at East Carolina University, North Carolina State University, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and chose to play for East Carolina. He joined the United States Air Force and served at the Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. While working with the Town of Kill Devil Hills, he received the 1993 Employee of the Year award from the Board of Commissioners for his service to the town of Kill Devil Hills. He retired in 2004 as an animal control officer with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department. He was an exceptional citizen of his community and an active member of his church. He never met a stranger and loved helping people. He enjoyed fishing, boating, dancing, singing, being at the beach, watching sporting events, playing games like pool, foosball, ping pong and just having a good time. He loved his family with all his heart. The loss of his presence each day will leave a void in our family. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Bettie Cooper Fussell; two daughters, Teresa Johnson Griffith of Clayton, NC and Johnna Fussell Lake and husband Dave of Holly Springs, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Kathryn Joyce Griffith, Robert Cooper Griffith, Allison Nicole Lake, and Parker Steven Lake; sister, Lucy Adelaide Scott of Savannah, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Robert Creech Griffith.
