Raleigh- Arvin Wilson Caviness, 91, passed from this life into the arms of his heavenly Father at his home on Tuesday. Mr. Caviness was the son of the late Robert Lee and Lida Belle Bullock Caviness. He proudly served his country in the US Merchant Marines and the US Army. Early in his work life, Arvin completed machine shop courses at NC State and worked in the shipyards of Virginia. He was an accomplished carpenter and worked many years with several major construction companies. Prior to his retirement, he was a blue print instructor at WW Holding Technical Institute. Arvin was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being in the outdoors. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Friday at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Caviness; sister, Sue Woodlief of Newport; brother, Elvin Caviness of Holly Springs; nineteen nieces and nephews; felines, Thomas and Gracie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Zalene Carter Caviness; brothers, Carl, Nelson, Albert, T.L., Jimmy, Leonard and Glenwood; sisters, Betty Lou Caviness, Alice Conner, Beatrice Morton, Camila Markham and Louise Fee.
