Wayne honorably served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from active duty he continued to serve as a facility maintenance manager and contractor for the Army National Guard for almost 30 years.

In 1978, Wayne married the love of his life and best friend. Together he and Bonnie raised their two daughters, Jenna and Candace, whom Wayne loved with all his heart. Wayne was a loving husband, devoted father, brother, and grandfather. He will be remembered fondly as a man of faith, having great strength and conviction, a man who was kind, generous, and who cared deeply for his family. He was a devoted servant of the Lord who served in his church for many years as a deacon and head usher.

Some of his achievements include: The Meritorious Award by the State of NC, The Men's Fellowship President's Award from the Capital Church, and the NC National Guard Superior Service Award.
