Barbara Shoenfelt

Barbara Shoenfelt died peacefully November 29, 2013, surrounded by her family at UNC Memorial Hospital. She was born November 1st, 1946 in Akron, Ohio to Merle and the late Vesta Rickert. Barb was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She enriched the lives of everyone she met. Barb gave to her community throughout her life. She was instrumental in the success of the Challenger Division of the Nottingham Little League in Hamilton, NJ. Her volunteer activities included the Steinert High School Band Parents Association in Hamilton, NJ; the Martin House Foundation in Trenton, NJ and in many capacities in her local parishes. Barb especially enjoyed planning family vacations at Emerald Isle, NC. Barbs funeral Mass is Tuesday, Dec. 3, 11am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Catholic Parish, 1008 Vandora Springs Road, Garner, NC. Barb is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Ray Shoenfelt, who she met while playing at a Catholic Young Adults volleyball game in Akron, Ohio. Barb is also survived by her daughter, Theresa (Eric); sons: Mike (Jenn), Tom, Dave (Andrea) and Brian; grandchildren: Kyra, Eric, Jason, Alyssa, Josh, Nick, Emily, Matthew, Lilly and Jessica; brothers John (Sue), Paul (Marlene), Dennis (Karen), Kenny (Kerri), Brian (Cathy); sisters Jean Ann (Dan), Judy (Pat), Mary (Mark) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Dale. The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 2 from 6-8 pm at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road in Garner, NC. Special thanks to all the health care workers at Waverly Hematology Oncology in Cary, NC, and Western WakeMed Cary Hospital, and at the UNC Chapel Hill hospitals, especially in the MICU unit at Memorial Hospital.
