RALEIGH – Barbara Smith Kennedy, 60, died peacefully Tuesday after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was a beloved staff member of Wake Technical Community College, working there for 24 years. Throughout her years there, she worked in both the ILC and pre-curriculum math department. She was known not only as the sweet and caring teacher, but also known as the teacher who was never without homemade chocolate chip cookies in her office. She has touched countless lives. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Memorial Services will be 3:00 pm Saturday at Hollands United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 34 years, David Kennedy; daughter, Allison Kennedy Miller (Ryan and grandchildren, Kennedy and Tucker) of Plainfield, IL; sons, Shaun Kennedy (Jessica and grandchildren, Logan and Hailey) of Fuquay Varina and Kevin Kennedy of Raleigh; mother, Eileen Smith of Cary; sister, Beverly Smith of Eastover, NC and brother, Steve Smith (Elizabeth) of Salt Lake City, UT. She is preceded in death by her father, Martin Smith.
