Durham - .She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. She is clothed in strength and dignity Proverbs 31: 17, 20, 25 Barbaras 3-year courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer ended Thursday evening August 7. God has taken her to her heavenly home of which she was certain and anticipated with great hope. Barbara Stephenson Jones was born October 3, 1950 to Jack and Mozelle Stephenson. She graduated from Garner Senior High School in 1968 and attended Hardbargers Business College. She was employed by City of Raleigh Department of Transportation for 21 years and especially enjoyed her years as Administrative Assistant to Donald Blackburn, City Director of Transportation. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Dean Langdon and great-niece Grace Ann White. Left to cherish Barbaras memory are her beloved and devoted husband of 25 years L.G. Jones, his children Haven Taylor and Lewis Jones, granddaughter Savannah Jones all of Durham; sisters Sue Honeycutt (Carl) of Garner, Carolyn Brakebill (Jack) of Knoxville, TN; nieces/nephew Carlette Moser (David) of Silk Hope, Celeste Blankenship (Johnny) of Raleigh, Scott Honeycutt (Beth) of Garner, Robin White of Galva, Illinois; great-nieces & nephews Marshall Moser (Virginia), Kevin Moser (Amanda), Brythe Blankenship, Haley Blankenship, Arlie Honeycutt, Jackson Honeycutt, Justin Capps, Noel White and Will White; great, great-nephew/nieces Landon Moser, Ava Moser and Brianna White; many special friends. Barbara loved all things beautiful.hummingbirds, feral kittens, doggies and was able to grow anything! She inherited her green thumb from her mother Mozelle; her competitive spirit and work ethic from her dad Jack. Barbara found great joy in loving, sharing and giving. She cherished and served her family, friends and neighbors unselfishly, tirelessly and with great devotion. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Robin L. Hardie-Hood and her wonderful staff and nurses at Regional Cancer Center of Durham for their loving care of Barbara through-out her 3 years of treatment. They would also like to thank Carol, Carla and Carolyn of Duke Hospice for their care and assistance during Barbaras final days. The visitation will take place Sunday, August 10, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC. The memorial service will be held Monday, August 11 at 3:30 in the chapel at Bryan Lee.
