Benjamin Franklin Godwin, Jr.

Raleigh - Benjamin Franklin Godwin, Jr., 99 years of age, died Monday, February 27, 2017. Born August 21, 1917 in Wake County. During World War II he was employed by the railroad which included transportation of troops. Later he worked for Lever Brothers (Unilever) as a salesman. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Billie Lou Dunn. He is also survived by daughter, Jean Stewart (Bill); granddaughters, Kelly Creed (Jeff) and Paige Stafford (Stan) of Greensboro, NC; six great grandchildren, Caleb Creed (Claire)  Boone, NC; Jesse Creed, Denver, Colorado; Jacob Creed, Greensboro, NC and Hannah Creed, Charlotte, NC; Will Stafford (Jordan), Wesley Stafford, Greensboro, NC; great-great grandchildren, Braydon and Sadie Stafford. Daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Gargis (James), Newton, NC; grandsons, J. Neil Gargis (Amanda), Winston-Salem, NC; Albert (“Al”) Gargis (Elizabeth), Hickory, NC; six great grandchildren, Jesse and Mary Kate Gargis and Jay and Molly Creamer, Winston-Salem, NC; and Lillie and Caroline Gargis, Hickory, NC. Son, Al Godwin (Karen), Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Ben Godwin (Libby), Orlando, FL; Adam Godwin (Kelly) Montgomery, AL; Shelley Godwin, Tusculoosa, AL; great granddaughter, Micah Mae Godwin, Montgomery, AL. Sisters-in-law, Nell D. Critcher (Dan), Rolesville, NC; Maureen Pender, Raleigh, NC and many nieces and nephews. Family will greet visitors at New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Road, Raleigh, NC 27604 on Friday, March 3 from 1:00 to l:45 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Dr. Jack Coffey. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church Missions Outreach or to the Baptist Home for Children, P.O.
