Raleigh – Benjamin Franklin Harmon, 78, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior surrounded by his loved ones on January 12, 2024. Ben was born April 19, 1945, to Manley Eugene and Mary Susanna Hobby Harmon.
Ben was a follower of Jesus and loved spending time with his Savior. He was a faithful lifelong member of Plymouth Baptist Church serving in many capacities.
After graduating from Garner High School, Ben served in the Army National Guard then started his career with CP&L/Progress Energy. After retiring from CP&L/Progress Energy, Ben started driving fuel tankers for Red Star Oil Company and dump trucks for Percy Johnson and Reese Construction. He also loved working with Linwood Hicks, although this consisted more of talking and eating than working. Those that knew Ben, knew he loved to talk. He had a loving, trusting, and kind heart that will truly be missed by all.
Ben was a Past Master and treasurer of William T. Bain Masonic Lodge #231, a member of Knights of Soloman serving as treasurer, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite. Ben was an Amran Shriner, past Director of the Wrecking Crew Unit, and past President of the Wake County Shrine Club and Garner Shrine Club. He served as past Director of Raleigh Court #186 Royal Order of Jesters and member of the Order of Quetzalcoatl. He was an emeritus member of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas Board of Governors. Ben was also an active member in McCullers Ruritan Club.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 16th, at 11:00 A.M. at Plymouth Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Plymouth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Monday, January 15th, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
Ben is survived by his dedicated wife, Carolyn; daughter, Caitlin Moody (Jordan); stepchildren, Jan Jones (Chris) and Brad Clark (Anne); grandchildren, Wyatt Bunn, Lila Clark, Noah Jones, and Liam Jones; and brother, Jim Harmon.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Harmon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital c/o Amran Shriners or the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford.
