August 8, 1929 - April 29, 2012 GARNER - Bennie R. Scarboro, 82, passed away Sunday.Bennie was the son of the late John Harris Scarboro and Grace Pate Scarboro.Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.Burial will follow with Masonic Rites at MontlawnMemorial Park, Raleigh.He was a charter member of Layden Memorial United Methodist Church. As an active member early on, he participated in the Methodist Mens club and was an MYF Youth Leader.He was a member of the Charles B. Newcomb Masonic Lodge. Garner.He served in the United States Army in the 1950s and was honorably discharged.He was employed as a truck driver with A.G. Boone Trucking Company and retired after forty plus years.While there, he earned the million mile club safe driving status.Upon retirement, he worked for fourteen years as a gate attendant at the N.C. State Farmers market.There he enjoyed talking and visiting with the farmers and vendors.As a resident in Garner, he was involved as a coach with Garner Baseball for teams PineState and Coca-Cola for over ten years.There he enjoyed coaching the youth in baseball.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hazel Hall Scarboro; son, Phillip Ray Scarboro and wife, Tricia of Cary, daughters Cindy Scarboro Batten and husband, Randy Batten, Bonnie Scarboro Glover and husband, Eddie Glover, all of Raleigh; sisters, Janice Wall of Garner and Cecilia Redd of Raleigh; brother John F. Scarboro and wife, Dot of Adel, GA; grandchildren, Taylor Scarboro and wife, Elizabeth, Becca Scarboro, Emily Batten, Eric Batten and Holly Glover.In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his brother Junior Scarboro.The family will receive friends 12:30 - 2:00 PM Friday, prior to the service at the Funeral Home. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Zeitler and Dr. Boles and staff of Rex Oncology and Dr. Amarendra B. Reddy and staff of Raleigh Cardiology.
