Bennie "Scooter" Eugene Pierce, Jr., 64, of Garner, NC, passed away on June 22, 2021. While surrounded by his family, he walked peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bennie was born in Bethesda, MD to Ben and Louise Pierce. Growing up in a military family, Bennie found home in many places, which taught him to be a friend to all and a stranger to none. After graduating from James Madison University, Bennie eventually settled in Virginia Beach, VA, where he enjoyed surfing, lifeguarding, and every obscure sport imaginable -- until he married Cathy, the love of his life, in May of 1987. The couple moved to the West Coast soon after, where they fed their thirst for adventure and began their family. Bennie and Cathy ultimately landed in Garner, NC, where they planted roots in a community where friends became family to raise the children they were blessed with along the way. Amanda, Lauren, Evan, and Sarah were greatly impacted by their father over the years. Bennie was a coach, mentor, cheerleader, and role model in all endeavors not only to his children, but to the countless others that he crossed paths with. Bennie was a man of God, and loved the Lord with all his heart. His final words on this earth were quoted from Psalm 23, “The LORD is my shepherd…” His family rests knowing that he is with his Savior in Paradise. In addition to his immediate family, Bennie is survived by his sisters, Dianne Coats (Bryant) of Clayton, NC, and Cyndi Wheeler (David) of Chesapeake, VA, and numerous extended family. The family would like to give their sincere thanks and gratitude to the medical staff of WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC, who went above and beyond to provide the utmost care and compassion for Bennie and his family during his time in their care. A Celebration of Life will be held at Southside Church in Clayton, NC on Wednesday, June 30th at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, it was Bennie’s wish that donations be made to Shepherds International to support The Harmeling Family.
