Bennie Wayne Brooks

Bennie Wayne Brooks, age 78 of Garner, NC died Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 1, 1946 in Wake County, NC to the late Bennie Brooks and Charlotte Mae Holland Brooks.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jo Brooks of the home; his children, Patrick Brooks and his wife, Sherry of Benson, NC, Jay Brooks of Newport, NC, Cassie Howell and her husband, Jeff of Statesville, NC and Joey Granger of Four Oaks, NC; his grandchildren, Courtney Barefoot and her husband, Johnathan of Newton Grove, NC, Kaitlyn Brooks of Four Oaks, NC, Nevin Howell of Statesville, NC and Alyssa Howell of Port St. Lucie, FL; his great-grandchildren, Luke, Olivia and Ella Kate; his sister, Janie Watkins and her husband, Johnny of Rolesville, NC and his pup, Brandi.

Serving and working with his community, Shrine and Mason groups, Wayne dedicated many years working with the Shriners to support the Shriners Children Hospital, he had a great love for the children there. He has been a Mason in Garner Lodge 701 since March 3, 1975 and served as Master Mason two times. Wayne was a Amran Shriner and active with them since June of 1984 and Potentate in 2008. He was active with the Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron six times and District Deputy Grand Patron two times. He served on the board for the Garner Historic Society. During his working career, he worked and retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

The family will receive friends and family Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC.

His memorial service with Masonic Rites will be Monday, July 29, 2024 at 2:30 pm in the Bryan Lee Funeral Home Chapel. A private family burial will take place at a later time in Montlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Shriners Children's , 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
