Betsy Hoy Mooneyham

July 11, 1936 — October 14, 2016

Betsy Hoy Mooneyham, 80, a native of Raleigh and lifelong member of of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, passed away suddenly Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Betsy was the daughter of James and Essie Hoy. She graduated from Hugh Morson High School and married her high school sweetheart, Bob Mooneyham, on Dec. 15, 1957. She worked at Rex Hospital School of Nursing before starting her family. After having her first child, Scott, she became a housewife and raised her two children who became her greatest passion. Betsys happiest moments were spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her faithful dedication to family will always endure through the lives she left behind. Betsy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob Mooneyham; her son, Scott Mooneyham (Lisa); her daughter, Julie Stevens (Craig); her grandchildren Kelly Mooneyham, Erin Warnick (Mike), Nick Stevens, Jeffrey Stevens (Krista Fournier, fiancé) and Connor Stevens; her brother Jim Hoy (Mary Lou); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Essie Hoy; and her sister, Joyce Jones. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1 p.m. at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church with a graveside service immediately following at Montlawn Memorial Park.
