Bette Ruth Campen Lassiter

February 24, 1933 — November 28, 2011

Raleigh - Bette Lassiter was greeted with open arms by her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 28, 2011. Bette Ruth Campen Lassiter, adored wife and cherished mother, completed her journey surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was born February 24, 1933 in Raleigh, NC, the daughter of Brooks and Ruth Campen. She married the love of her life on March 23, 1951 and they were anticipating the celebration of their 62nd wedding anniversary. She worked at NCSU Bookstore and enjoyed her job and co-workers. Our mother was devoted to her family. She had the gift of making everyone feel special. She took great pride in feeding her family home cooked meals and she was good at it. Her unfailing devotion to her family and her faith in God has instilled in us confidence, compassion for others and values that will never fail us. She made sure each of us knew how very much she loved us and how proud she was of us. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. (Proverbs 31:28). Through lifes struggles, mom was the perfect example of Gods grace and we draw from that today. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Brooks and Ruth Campen; a son, John Allison Lassiter; two grandsons, Justin Michael Lassiter and Jonathan David Lassiter; and her three brothers, Howard Campen, Tommy Campen, and Robert Campen. Left to cherish her memory is her doting husband, Bill Lassiter; five children, Billy Lassiter, Jr. (wife Bonnie), Eddie H. Lassiter (wife Tricia), Tim Lassiter (wife Debbie), Jeff Lassiter (wife Kenni), Bette L. Carter (husband Tim); eight grandchildren, Laurie Layton (husband Eric), Eddie H. Lassiter, Jr. (wife Jaime), Jessica Lewis (husband Anthony), Jeffrey Lassiter (wife Erica), John Lassiter (wife Laci), Christopher Lassiter, Kaylie Carter and Gracie Carter; thirteen great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Margarette Poole, Judy Stephenson, and Sonja Collins. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 2, from 11:00 until 12:00 Noon, followed by a celebration of her life at Noon at Longview Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Historic Oakwood Cemetery. Though she leaves us heavy hearted, we are so blessed to have had her in our lives. We know we will be rejoined again in Heaven. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses at Rex Hospital, CCU, for their gentleness and kindness. She has done what she could. (Mark 14:8) In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Longview Baptist Church Building Fund, 2308 New Hope Rd., Raleigh, NC 27604. Arrangements by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh, NC.
