Bettie Canady Penny

Bettie Canady Penny, 89, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was born in Johnston County, the daughter of Winston and Janie Canady, both deceased.

Her life was defined by her unconditional love for her family. She was very independent and possessed great strength which she received from Jesus Christ, her savior.

In addition to her parents, Bettie is preceded in death by her husband Mallie Penny (M.A.); and brothers, Dwight Canady, and Claude (Doodle) Canady.

She leaves behind many who will miss her dearly including sons Stanley and wife Terry of Garner; Tim and wife Denise of Coats; Darrell and wife Brenda of Wilmington; David of Surf City; and daughter Gail Cotten and husband Jerry of Raleigh. She also leaves behind brother Gerry (Buck) Canady and wife Sandra of Clayton and sister Cynthia (Peaches) Scott and husband Tommy of Garner; grandchildren; Bryan Penny, Derek Penny, Winston Penny, Tracey Penny Durham, Andrew Penny, Kelly Penny Beatty, Blair Penny; nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 17, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road Garner, NC 27529, and other times at the home of Stan and Terry Penny, 242 Pierce Road, Garner. Services will be held at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church 15772 Benson Rd., Garner, NC 27529 on Friday October 18, at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
