Raleigh - Betty Baker Simpkins, 74, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and friend to many, went to be with our Lord, Friday morning, while surrounded by her family. Betty was the daughter of Ollie Ruth Baker and the late Whalon T. Baker. Betty had a love for her faith in God, her family, and friends. The service in celebration of her life will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 2:00PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 7900 TenTen Rd., Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Betty was the co-owner of Wake County Speedway and Simpkins Trucking. For many years, she operated the Grandstand Concession Stand and made many, many fried bologna Sandwiches. She enjoyed spending time at her beach home, especially with her friends and family. In addition to her mother she is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Oscar Talmadge Simpkins, Jr.; their children, Deborah Simpkins McDonald and husband, Graham, of Lillington, Curtis Simpkins and wife, Leslie, of Raleigh, and Cathy Simpkins, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shanna, Matthew, and Lacy; brother, Tommy Baker, of Willow Springs; sister, Peggy Upchurch, of Apex; and brother and sister in law, Glen Simpkins and wife, Jean. Betty had won the race of life, with a checkered flag in her hand, her victory is to spend eternal life in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What a glorious rejoicing it must be!
