GARNER - Betty Rose Corbett Perry, 86, died on January 7, 2015, following a long illness. A longtime resident of Garner, she died at her daughter’s home in Johnston County. Betty was born December 2, 1928 in Auburn, North Carolina to Catherine Keziah Corbett and Belzoni Ainsworth Corbett. She was the middle child with five brothers: Richard Corbett, B.A. Corbett Jr., David Lee Corbett, Thomas Corbett, and John Corbett. She was united in marriage to William H. (Mike) Perry on February 6, 1954 in Garner, North Carolina. He preceded her in death October 12, 1989. They were married for 35 happy years. Betty graduated from Garner High school in 1947 and afterward attended Peace College. After graduating, she worked as a legal secretary until she married Mike Perry in 1954. Betty had 3 children, Kathryn (Kathy), Elizabeth and Michael Perry. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was always the focus of her life. Betty worked many years for the Garner Police Department as an administrative assistant and sold Avon in and around Garner to help put her children through college. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Garner. She also worked as a volunteer at the Garner Area Ministries, serving on the board until she was forced by illness to resign. Betty was a member of the Clara Craven Book Club for more than 15 years. She enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of the “book ladies.” She is survived by her daughter, Kathy, and her husband, Jim, of Johnston County; her daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Don, of Lake Royale; and her son, Mike, and his wife, Susan, of Dallas, Texas. In addition, she is survived by 8 grandchildren: Sam Blue, Elizabeth Blue, Kate Kennedy, Laura Kennedy, Dara Massicot, Troy Gould, Jason Anderson and Rachel Perry. In November, she met her first great-grandchild, George Massicot. Brothers Belzoni Ainsworth Corbett, Jr. and wife Ola Corbett, Thomas Busbee Corbett and wife Ginger Corbett, and John Hall Corbett and wife Sandra Corbett, sister-in-law Anne Perry Capucille also survive her. Funeral services will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner at 11 am, Saturday, January 10. Visitation will be at 10 am before the service. A brief graveside service will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Transitions LifeCare (formerly known as Hospice of Wake County).
