Betty Cordell

February 24, 1944 — February 21, 2025

Betty Mitchell Cordell, 80, of Garner, NC, passed away on February 21, 2025, following a sudden, brief illness. Betty was born on February 24, 1944, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and, as the daughter of an Army veteran, had already seen much of the world before settling in North Carolina at the age of 15. She graduated from Garner Senior High School in 1961 and began working for Wachovia as a typist where she met Craigg Austin Cordell. Betty and Craigg were married on July 27, 1962, and raised two loving daughters, Tracy and Lisa. Betty enjoyed the privilege of being a wife and mother, took pride in caring for her family and home, and was always happy to serve as grade-mother at school, attend all the school field trips, and anything else her husband or children needed. In 1977, she began working as a receptionist for New York Life Insurance Company where she worked until the birth of her first grandchild in 1990. Thereafter, she took up the cherished role of "Memaw" providing love and care for all the grandchildren that came along afterwards as well as for her husband. In addition to time spent with family, Betty enjoyed cross-stitching, clothes shopping, collecting miniature tea sets, and spoiling the grandkids.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and James Mitchell; her sister, Barbara Sue Goff; and her loving husband Craigg. She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Cordell Myatt (Tommy) of Clayton, NC, and Lisa Cordell Mastin of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren she adored with all her heart - Jacob Pearce, Olivia Finotti (Marcus), and Ty Myatt; a step-grandson, Brandon Myatt, from whom she had 3 great-grandchildren - Lillian, Joseph, and Caroline; her sister, Dottie Wilson (Steve) of Maumelle, Arkansas; and her brother, Jimmy Mitchell of Maumelle, Arkansas.
