GARNER - Betty Edwards Middleton, age 96, passed away on Wednesday 12-30-20. Born in the Bahama community near Orange Factory, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Ona Edwards. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Isaac Middleton and sisters, Edna Leonard and Nannie Chappell. Betty grew up in the “Falls community” now known as Falls of the Neuse. She cherished her memories of family and friends, attended Millbrook High School and worshiped at the Falls Baptist Church. Moving to Raleigh for employment, she met James Middleton during World War II. They were married shortly after his return from serving in the Army in Germany and made their home in Garner near the Middleton family. Betty worked as a legal secretary in Raleigh. She served at Holland’s United Methodist Church working in the United Methodist Women’s group and in many other work areas. Bettys husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joys. Betty is survived by sons Jim Middleton and wife, Jane; Steve Middleton and wife, Carolyn; grandchildren, Katie Middleton DePlatchett and husband, Jason; Matt Middleton and wife, Sara; Tara Middleton Gillespie and husband, Jeff; Trina Middleton Barham and husband, Andy and Kellie Middleton Schmidt and husband, Matt; as well as ten great grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be private. The family appreciates your understanding during this time. Beginning at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 2, Betty’s funeral service can be seen at hollandsumc.org. We want to thank our family and friends for your support of our family through the years.
