Betty Holloway Johnson, 88, of Garner, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday March 16, 2024. She passed away peacefully at home listening to her Gaither music and surrounded by her family.
Betty is the daughter of the late Owen and Carvie Holloway. She is also predeceased by her husband, William Felton Johnson; and siblings, Owen (O.J.) Holloway, Haywood (Red) Holloway, Eulan (E.C) Holloway, Donald Holloway, Jackie H. Love and Wallace Holloway.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Julia Albertson (Ronnie) , and Dawn Tiller (Michael); grandchildren, Cameron Beam (Amanda), Candice Leonard (Casey), Kasey Tiller, Randy Albertson, Scotty Albertson (Lawana) and Susan O’Daniel (JP); great-grandchildren, Talan, Jacob, Eisley, Wrenley, Destiny, Kolby, Madison F., Bailey, Carson, Logan, Will, Madison O., and Tashi; along with many nieces and nephews.
Betty was raised in Four Oaks, North Carolina. She graduated from Four Oaks High school. She accomplished a few years of college at Campbell and ECU before she married her husband, life long friend and the love of her life, Felton.
Matriarch of an incredibly close family, Betty enjoyed a wonderful family life. She was devoted to her children and she was a proud grandmother.
Betty loved her family, church, and her friends. She always opened her heart and home to them. She loved to cook. There was always an extra chair and a delicious meal and on most occasions a beautifully decorated table to share with them.
She was a lifelong member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church and was active in her church for over 50 years before she became sick. She loved singing in the choir and she was active in several different circle groups. She worked with the young people in the church as a youth director and a Sunday School Teacher. She was in the Round Dozen Book club with many of her closest friends. She also served as the Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters organization in the Grand Temple of the Carolinas for North and South Carolina.
Betty loved beautiful flowers and she loved to decorate things. She coordinated and decorated many weddings, showers and baby showers at the church and in the surrounding area.
Those who knew Betty knew she had a colorful personality, loved to laugh and cut up, and she loved playing the piano and loved all kinds of music and musical instruments. She enjoyed traveling and she loved the beach. She also loved to share her love of Jesus.
Through a career spanning many years, Betty held several different positions, including Nursing Personnel Coordinator at WakeMed, Job Personnel Counselor at BB&T, State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) as a stenographer, And the NC Federal Property Agency as a typist. She worked for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company as a Supervisor. She retired from public work, and in May 1978 she opened her own dress shop and business, Betty Johnson’s of Brittain’s on Fayetteville Street Mall in downtown Raleigh where she later retired in 1987.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church 3000 E Garner Rd, Raleigh, NC 27610. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at the church. Burial will take place at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
