Betty Lou Wilson Parker, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 while under hospice care at her home in Garner, NC.
Betty was born in Sampson County on August 26, 1936 to late parents James Alton and Nora Ellen (Jernigan) Wilson. She spent her childhood on the family farm and attended Plainview Elementary School outside Dunn, NC. A 1954 graduate of Dunn High School, thereafter she quickly met and married Layton Lee Parker of Harnett County. She followed her new husband to Hampton, VA where he was stationed at Langley Air force Base. There began the building of their family, which Betty so lovingly served as her first and foremost priority for the duration of her life. Having moved to Garner in 1966, Betty soon joined the First Baptist Church of Garner where she was an active member for over 50 years. Participation with and service to her church family was also a major priority in her life. After her three children were all well established in school, Betty started a career in banking at Bank of North Carolina in Garner, now Bank of America. There, she became well known within the Garner community for her banking expertise and the excellent customer service she was always so happy to provide. Betty's life purpose can best be summarized in the words "service to others", to her family, her church and so many good friends. She will be sorely missed.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Layton, her brothers Tommy C. (TC) Wilson and James L. (Bud) Wilson, her sister Shirley Ann Wilson Beasley and her daughter-in-law Alma Hampton Parker.
Betty is survived by her sons, Danny Layton Parker (Lisa) and Ronnie David Parker (Amber); her daughter, Ellen Parker Baker; her grand children, David Parker, Crystal Higgins (Matt), Lee Baker (Bonnie), Lena Molina (Marvin), Rhonna Parker and Layton Parker; her step-grand children, Amelia Brown (Alex) and Trevor Lynch (Emily); her great grand children, Jackson Higgins, Patrick Higgins, Lily Higgins, Cora Higgins, Colton Carroll, Harper Carroll, Maya Molina, Mariella Molina; step-great grand children, Henry Brown, Caleb Brown and Whitney Lynch; her sisters-in-law, Beverly Wilson and Sue Wilson; her brother-in-law, Corbett Parker (Jan); and her lifelong dear friend "sister", Dot Thomason; and her many beloved cousins, neices and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 9th at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Garner, to be followed by a celebration of life service in the chapel at 3:00 PM. A graveside service will take place on Monday, February 10th at 2:00 PM at the Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In keeping with her life's purpose and in lieu of flowers, Betty's family request that donations be made to Transitions Lifecare Hospice in honor of her memory.
