Betty Tucker Duke

May 6, 1928 — August 26, 2022

Betty Tucker Duke, 94, went to her heavenly home on August 26, 2022. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her immensely and ultimately gave her peace in her last days. Betty was born to the late Ira and Gussie Tucker in Menlo, GA on May 6, 1928, as the oldest of two daughters. Her family moved to various southern states, including Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, and ultimately, North Carolina, in support of her father’s career as a firefighter for the railroad industry. She was firm in her faith and attended church with her family at First Freewill Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. Having spent many years in Georgia, Betty garnered the talent for cooking delicious homecooked country meals that will be greatly missed. Betty’s professional career was dedicated as the bookkeeper at Consolidated Laundry Equipment Company for over 30 years. After retirement, Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. Betty was married twice and had two children, Ronnie King and Dixie Duke. Betty was known and loved as a beloved “Mema” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was kind and soft- spoken, never hesitating to take time to help anyone in need. Despite many hardships during her life, Betty overcame any obstacle presented to her, no matter what it took. She was a strong-willed, compassionate lady, and her loving spirit and support were felt beyond measure by her family. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Betty is survived by her son Ronald King (Renee), daughter Dixie Pearce (Doug); grandchildren Ron King, Julie King, David King, Shawn Turner, Dexter Pearce (Kristen), Darby Atkins (John); great- grandchildren Jackson King, Hadley Pearce, Sadie Pearce, niece Deanna Harvell and nephew Greg Bunn. She is preceded in death by her father Ira Oddest Tucker, mother Gussie Willingham Tucker, sister Maxine T. Bunn, and husband Walter B. Duke, Jr. A graveside service will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. on September 1, 2022, with Pastor Jeff Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center. John 14:1-3
