Betty Williams Medlin

On January 3rd, 2024, Betty Williams Medlin peacefully transitioned into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family. Born in Oak Ridge NC in 1927, Betty cultivated a long and happy life. She was the child of Martreal Cottrell Williams and Fred S. Williams. She outlived her siblings Nancy Williams Abernethy and Mike Williams. She spent her early years living in Greensboro, graduating from Bessemer High School. Subsequently, Betty also lived in Rural Hall, Garner, and Clayton.

She was predeceased by infant son Timothy, great-granddaughter Elaina Mae Medlin, and former husband Dr. Charles Medlin, MD. She is survived by sons Charles Medlin, Jr. (Louise) and David Medlin, Sr. (Cheryl), and daughters Suzanne Medlin Best and Judy Medlin Moore (Mike). She leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Betty had a great fondness for the beaches of North Carolina, especially Atlantic Beach, where she spent many years enjoying sunsets and walking the beaches in search of seashells and sand dollars. Betty inherited a green thumb and spent countless hours in her happy place tending to plants and flowers and watching the birds. She was a very accomplished seamstress and left quite a heritage of beautiful quilts, much to the delight of friends and family.

Betty dedicated part of her adult life to raising a family and then transitioned into a career as a highly respected office manager for several dental practices in Greensboro and Garner. In semi-retirement unrivaled skills as a seamstress made her a vital cog in a local shop that produced a variety of high quality fabric pieces that have brightened many a home. Betty was a tireless worker and worked a regular schedule well into her 80s.

Among many wonderful attributes, perhaps her greatest gift was spreading joy and love throughout her far-flung family. She had an unrivaled ability to make everyone feel loved and appreciated. Her passing leaves a great void, but the loss will be eased by many fond memories of her big heart and loving nature.

The family will host a memorial visitation on Tuesday February 13, 2024 from 4-6pm. It will take place at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home at 1200 Benson Rd in Garner.
