Beverly Ann Sabol Chase passed away at Galloway Ridge in Pittsboro, NC on February 28, 2024, with her family by her side.
A native of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Bev is predeceased by her parents Jessie and Michael Sabol and her sister Nancy Jean Sabol.
She was graduated from Purdue University where she was a member of the Lafayette Swim Team and Delta Gamma sorority. Afterward, she taught 2nd grade in Lakewood, Ohio and in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While in Colorado, she met her beloved husband and best friend Henry Homer Chase, Jr.
After their marriage in 1964, they moved to Chase, Alabama. Bev was active in her community in many ways, including the Huntsville Garden Club, the Antiquarian Society, the Brown Bag Bridge Group, the Junior League, Hospice of Huntsville, and the Church of the Nativity. She was a Girl Scouts leader.
Bev and Henry retired to Monteagle, Tennessee in 2005. Bev loved the peace of the mountain. There she served on the Altar Guild at Otey Parish and was a founding member of Folks at Home.
In 2015, Bev and Henry moved to Galloway Ridge in North Carolina. She was a member of PEO International, the Chapel Hill Sportsmans Club, and Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church. She volunteered at the SECU Family House.
Throughout their 59 years together, Bev and Henry loved to travel, having enjoyed visiting many beautiful places especially in New England, the southwest and more recently the coastal regions of North and South Carolina. They loved hiking together on the Fiery Gizzard Trail in Sewanee, Tennessee. They loved learning about the culture and history of the places they lived and visited, with special appreciation of the artists they met in each destination. Bev loved all of God’s creatures except cats.
Bev is survived by her husband of 59 years Henry, her daughters Nancy Chase of Greensboro, NC, Emily Chase Rodgers of Huntsville, AL (Robert), Anna Chase of Greensboro, NC (Mark), sister Donna Sabol Conte of Brownsville, PA (Don), sister-in-law Emily Chase Cook of Macon, GA (Charles), and grandchildren Sabol Payne Rodgers Butler of Athens, GA (Alex) and Henry Homer Chase Rodgers of Huntsville, AL. Bev was aunt to a niece and to four nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Pat Lynch and her team from UNC Hospice for providing the best care imaginable to beloved Bev.
Her funeral will be on March 6, 1:30 p.m., at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, 304 E. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC. A celebration of her life will be held on March 21, 3:30 p.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, Huntsville, AL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SECU Family House at 123 Old Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill NC, 27517. The SECU Family House is a home that provides guest lodging, meals, and transportation to families whose loved ones are in UNC Hospitals for life-saving treatment and care.
