Billy Bolton

Billy Thomas Bolton died at Rex Hospital on April 8, 2025. Billy was born on May 14, 1937, and grew up on the family farm in the Wakefield area near Zebulon. During his first job with state government, he took several classes in Accounting at NC State and moved into this line of work, retiring as Budget Officer of the Federal Surplus Property Agency with 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked for several years at Stone's Southern School Supply.

Billy enjoyed daily long walks in his neighborhood, trips to the beach, and hiking mountain trails. He loved roaming the state with his wife Sylvia, and the boys when they were younger, staying at inns and lodges and eating at favorite restaurants. He also enjoyed visiting his son Kenneth and his family in California and Ithaca, New York.

Billy was very skilled at plumbing, wiring, carpentry, and automobile mechanics.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia Alford Bolton; sons, Kenneth of Ithaca, NY and William of Raleigh; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bolton; granddaughter, Sophie Bolton of Boston; sister, Willa Bolton Deans; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents, Willie Worth and Fannie Whitley Bolton; brother, James Wade Bolton; sisters, Ann Dora Bolton and Hazel Bolton Lee; brothers-in-law, Bobby Ray Lee and Gordon Deans.

Visitation will be held Friday April 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bryan Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh. Private burial will take place at Raleigh Memorial Park.
