GARNER- Billy Ennis, 85, passed away on Monday. Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late Carlos and Ina Ennis. Billy graduated from Hugh Morson High School and worked at the Ambassador Movie Theater. After spending two years in the Army Signa Corps, he graduated from King’s Business College. Billy met Betty on a blind date and married in 1960. They were happily married for 46 years until her passing in 2006. He spent 30 years with the NCDOT. as an internal auditor with the Division of Highways before retiring. Billy was an avid golfer and family man, who never missed his grandchildren’s’ baseball and football games. He was well known for handing out mints at Church. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Garner. A burial will be held at a later time in The Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet, NC. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, prior to the service. Billy is survived by son, David (Tammy); daughter, Karla; grandchildren, Tyler (Abby), Kelly (Brittany), and Luke (Cassie); and great-grandchildren, Payton, Oaklynn, Sophia, Owen, and Anne-Marie. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Ennis and brother, Jerry Ennis.
