Billy Gene Tart, Sr.

RALEIGH – Billy Gene Tart, Sr., 79, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Garner Advent Christian Church. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. Billy was born in Granville County on September 25, 1938 to the late James and Lola Jones Tart. He attended Garner Advent Christian Church and was a faithful member of the Garner Optimist Club until his recent declining health. Billy retired from Dorthea Dix Hospital after 30 years of service. In his spare time Billy enjoyed fishing, golfing, and NASCAR, but his favorite pastime was his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth T. Tart; son, Billy “Gene” Tart, Jr. and wife, Brena of Raleigh; grandson, Max Tart; and brother, Lewis P. Tart and wife, Catherine of Wendell; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dolly Hairr; and brothers, James E. Tart, Robert Tart, James Melton Tart, Estel “Pee Wee” Tart.
