RALEIGH- Billy Howell Lewis, 78, died Monday at his home. A native of Sampson County, he was the son of the late William Vestal and Lugenia Barnhill Lewis. He served in the Army and the reserves for 6 years. He met his wife, Ann, in 1961. They were married in 1963 and moved to Raleigh. Billy worked at Dorothea Dix Hospital and Triangle Correctional Center and retired after 30 years of service. He became handicap in 2005 but still enjoyed his grandchildren, church, watching Tarheel basketball, and travel - including several cruises. He was an active member of Garner Advent Christian Church where he served as a Deacon as well as various other positions. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and granddad and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday at Garner Advent Christian Church. Entombment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30-8:30 pm at the church. Survivors include his wife, Ann Lewis; sons, Dennis Lewis and Darren Lewis (Sarah), all of Garner; sisters; Betty Tart (Jimmy)of Cary and Katie Stafford (Garfield) of Clinton; brothers, Vestal Lewis (Nancy) of Hampton, VA and Joseph Lewis (Annette) of Dunn; three grandchildren, Haley, Natalie and Kelli. Arrangements by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
