Born in Garner, NC on December 29, 1930 the 4th of 5 children of Collin Lee Grissom and Luna Penny Grissom; “Papa Bill” influenced the lives of everyone around him. He was a quiet, purposeful man of many talents who used his wisdom and generous spirit to help everyone that he could. Probably most cherished by him were the years that he spent traveling this beautiful country with his wife Lorene and making so many wonderful memories with his grandchildren. As a tobacco farmer, he tirelessly worked the land that he was born on and later retired as the owner of Grissom’s Greenhouses and Nursery. One thing that we will all remember is Papa’s hands. We have watched these hands do many things; they were strong yet gentle, but always honest. There was always love in his hands. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Bonnie G. Blackley (Jimmy) of Black Mountain, NC; Rhonda G. Jernigan (Phil) of Raleigh, NC; Billy “Macon” Grissom, Jr. (Cheryl) of Garner, NC; grand-children Phyllis Jernigan of Raleigh, NC; Brad Jernigan (Lesley) of Wilmington, NC; Kristen Holcomb (Stan) of Siler City, NC; Megan Blackley (Will) of Asheville, NC; Heather Barbour-Wyatt (Seth) of Charlotte, NC; Billy Macon “Trey” Grissom, III (Megan) of Springfield, VA; Travis Grissom (Mallory) of Durham, NC and great grand-children Blake Holcomb, Butler Jernigan, and Wade Grissom. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on hwy 50, Garner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
