Blanche Pleasant Mitchell, 98, of Raleigh, died peacefully on August 18, 2023. Blanche was born on January 25, 1925, in Harnett County, North Carolina, to the late Percy and Eunice Pleasant. She began her 40 year career at Southern Bell in 1943. Blanche married her sweetheart, Paul Mitchell on December 15, 1945, just 15 days after he returned from the war. She enjoyed a long life of traveling, spending time with friends and family, playing cards, and taking in the water views from the porch of her beach house. She was a long-time member of New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh.
In addition to her parents, Blanche was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Paul Mitchell; brothers, Jim Pleasant, Dan Pleasant, and Joe Pleasant; sisters, Betty Beasley and Jan Gainey; as well as her son, William Paul Mitchell (Bill).
She is survived by her grandson, William Paul “Billy” Mitchell, Jr., of Raleigh; her granddaughter, Cameron Mitchell Tatone (Lance), of Hendersonville; her five great grandchildren, Brittany Mitchell, Samantha Tincher, Stephen Tatone, Robbie Tatone, and Mike Tatone; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
The funeral will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, in Garner, on Wednesday, August 23, at 1pm. Burial at Montlawn Memorial Park will follow. The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home from 12-12:50pm, prior to the service.
