Angier — Bob Harvey Broadwell, 95, died on March 25, 2024, following a period of declining health.
He was born April 12, 1928, in Harnett County, the youngest son of Walter J. and Estelle S. Broadwell. A veteran, he served in the US Army at Fort Hood, Texas. He retired from USS Agri-Chemicals, where he was employed as a salesman, while at the same time managing a tobacco and cattle farm. After graduating Angier High School he received certification from Hoyles Business College in Raleigh. Bob spent many years employed in sales by Carolina Builders where he also practiced as a locksmith. He believed in better educational opportunities and supported it with quite a bit of footwork for local school consolidation. Growing up on a family farm, Bob held a long fascination with the land, the seasons and how to make things work spurring a commitment to farming that continued on into the late 1990s. In retirement, he was passionate about maintaining and enjoying a large vegetable garden along with his cousin Bruce Broadwell. After decades of fishing in the pond or at the coast, he developed a love for deep sea fishing. Bob had an approach to life full of joy and hope. He had the ability to disarm you with humor and kindness. Bob was an active and impactful member of the Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his wife of the past 71 years, Betsy (Jane) Rollins Broadwell of the home, his sons, Tim Broadwell (Deborah) of Farmville, NC, and Bobby Broadwell of Clayton, NC, his daughter Sandra Broadwell-Paye (Bob) of Willow Spring, NC; three grandchildren, Chris Paye, Kevin Paye, and Alex Broadwell.
