Bobby Gene Wheeler

Raleigh- Bobby Gene Wheeler, 86, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on July 18, 2023.

A native of Harnett County, Bobby was born on September 23, 1936, to the late James and Virgie Wheeler.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd, Roy and William; sisters, Maebell and Sadie.

He is survived by Hilda Gregory (Jerry); Horace Wheeler; John Wheeler (Brenda); and Robert Wheeler (Nan); his daughter, Beth Woodall (Andy); grandchildren, Meredith Althoff (Michael), Tyler Nichols (Heather), Amber Earp (Travis); and 6 great grandchildren.

Bobby cherished his relationship with God, his family, and his friends. Bobby was a well-loved member of his community. His church family at Grace in Willow Spring had a special place in his heart.

Bobby always took great pride in his work and loved teaching others his many skills. His strong work ethic resulted from going to work at an early age to help his mother support the family.

Helping people brought him great joy, and he never missed the opportunity to do so. He patterned his life after Ephesians 4:32 “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

People say your relationship with animals reflects your capacity for love. Bobby loved all animals and in his later years helped his daughter volunteer at SPCA of Wake County.

The Facetime, phone calls, letters, cards, and visits Bobby received during the final weeks were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to him.

Bobby will always be remembered for his humor and ever-present smile.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 21 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner NC 27529. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 pm at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary.
