August 9, 1935 - March 1, 2011GARNER - Bobby Ray Thompson, 75, passed away March 1, 2011.A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 6, at 2:00 PM at Garner United Methodist Church.A reception will follow the service at the Church.The family will receive friends at the home of Diane and Bobby Thompson Jr. (9704 Dirt Peeler Rd., Raleigh) Friday March 4, beginning at 5:00 PM. Bobby, son to the late Milton and Iola Thompson, was also preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Pate.Formerly of Garner, Bobby was currently residing at Abbotswood Retirement Center, Raleigh.In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Bobby enjoyed sports car racing and gardening.After retiring from Westinghouse after 36 years of faithful employment, he retired in 2010 from working for his sons company, Thompson Contracting. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Walters Thompson of Raleigh, son, Bobby Thompson Jr. and wife Diane of Raleigh, brother Willis Thompson and wife Jean of Garner, sister Catherine Bagwell and husband Gerald of Raleigh, step-daughter, Vickie and husband David Teal of Raleigh, step-sons, Bill Edwards and wife Liz of Raleigh; Allen Edwards and wife Karen of Youngsville, step-granddaughters, Nicki Hudson and husband Brandon of Raleigh; Sarah Teal of Wilmington, step-grandsons, Brandon and Matthew Hamilton of Raleigh, two step-great-grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
